DAY 2: HE IS THE PASSOVER LAMB
Exodus 12, Luke 22:7-13
To commemorate the Passover, the Jewish people would share a meal called Seder. It included four main elements (some traditions have more), each rich with symbolic meaning. The lamb pointed to the sacrifice whose blood was used to escape death. Bitter herbs were a reminder of the harshness of slavery in Egypt. Unleavened bread symbolized God’s provision. And multiple cups of wine represented judgment, redemption, and praise.
As Jesus approached the end of his life, He gathered his disciples to partake in this Passover meal. Only this time, he would give it an entirely new meaning. He took the bread and said it represents His broken body, which would be God’s provision for eternal life and deliverance from slavery to sin. He took a cup of wine and equated the blood of the Passover lamb with his own. His blood would be shed so that we wouldn’t have to taste death, but could receive life to the full.
What an exchange! He is, and forever will be, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
REFLECTION
- What does Jesus being the Passover Lamb reveal about the character and nature of God?
- How have you experienced God’s provision lately? Take a moment to share that with someone close to you.
- The follower of Christ is someone who seeks to know and become like Jesus. When you think of Him as the Passover Lamb, how should that compel you to live toward others today?
PRAYER
King Jesus, thank You for laying down Your life for me. You carried the weight of my sin and shame upon Yourself so I could be free and have life abundantly. Today, and every day, help me to not lose the wonder of what you have done for me. I love you, Lord, Amen.
