Bayou City will contribute more than $1.2 million in 2018 to those working to spread the name of Jesus in our city and world.
Bayou City Relief – After Hurricane Harvey delivered 51 inches of rain on Houston in about 48 hours, flooding about 400,000 homes, Bayou City began rescuing people and cleaning up about 800 homes. Bayou City Relief was formed soon after to assist in the longer-term rebuilding effort. Since that time, Bayou City has been involved in helping more than 240 families get back into safe and secure housing.
Prestige Learning Institute – Currently serving over 100 students and mentees per semester from over 25 different countries. They have recently expanded their space to offer more childcare to students and more ESL classes. Bayou City currently has 11 ongoing volunteers and 3 staff members. PLI continue to be fruitful in seeing students come into the Kingdom along with helping refugees assimilate into their culture through job placement and language competency.
Gracewood- Recently celebrated seven families successfully graduate from their Family Care program. A new warehouse and Volunteer Center has been constructed and open which provides essential services to current and aftercare families.
Houston Welcomes Refugees – By the end of July, volunteers will have welcomed 9 families with the gift of friendship and provided 12 families with the gift of Welcome Kits. A total of 62 refugees will have arrived to Houston receiving a warm welcome this quarter. The alliance continues to grow with new churches and new partners being added to fight trafficking in our city. The alliance continues to provide organization support through Go Bags drives and volunteer opportunity promotion. They’ve also created an amazing tool for raising awareness through Go Boxes.
